Artist Spotlight: Kaviya Ravi

As an artist or maker, Kaviya Ravi has been growing her brand and following in Louisville and beyond.  You might have seen Kaviya’s colorful earrings and art while shopping at local Louisville boutiques. Her crafted window designs have been featured at Louisville’s Anthropologie. Did you catch a glimpse of her stunning home decor recently featured in Apartment Therapy?  This summer Kaviya is featured on NBC’s “Making It” Season 3, where you can tune in to learn more about her craft and personal story.

I met Kaviya a few years back while working with her on the team at Anthropologie. She recently graduated from the University of Louisville where she received her second degree in art, and I was picking up some holiday hours.  Beyond Kaviya’s aura of genuine kindness and energy, she shares an originality to everything she touches as an artist.  While I would often stick to neutrals or a “safe” palate of decor, Kaviya would inspire me with her wardrobe by mixing patterns, being bold, beautiful, and unique.  When I asked Kaviya her favorite color she remarked, “Every single color on the rainbow.”  

If it is true that our childhood dreams impact our careers, as a kid Kaviya had specific interests. She wanted to be a great many things: a lady cop, a marine biologist, a travel reporter, an artist, and a costume designer. Kaviya finds herself at her creative best with her mind unhindered working during the morning hours.  

As a mixed-media artist, she has yet to find a texture she doesn’t like, but she is best friends with anything soft and tasselled.  Today, Kaviya’s dream is to work for herself creating a brand selling quirky, joyful, handmade objects for everyday life.  Her website 100% up-and-running: www.khromophilia.com.
