Derby Fashion: Favorite Finds

We’re off to the races, and for those heading to the track you have a few short days to finalize the details on your Derby outfits. There are a few local shops I love to recommend to friends. Make sure you stop by any of these local stores for your final Derby fix, or make sure you visit them when you have more time after the Derby festivities. In the heart of St. Matthews, this gem of a store has something for everyone. My Unbridled Eve gala jumpsuit this year is from here! I wore it already to another “night out,” and recommended this store to all who wanted to know where my outfit was from. Unique and beautiful outfits with new selections in daily. Almost new, new, and barely worn outfits are for sale. They also have Derby hats.
It’s only a skip, hop, and a jump across the river to New Albany, Indiana to visit the fun, stylish boutique Dress and Dwell. I wore a jumpsuit for Derby last year from their store, and I received numerous compliments. My outfit was under $50.00, and I loved it!
The featured hat and dress from this blog post are from Impromptu. Jordan, the owner, has been busy this Derby as the rush of shoppers are picking up their outfit items. They recently moved to Oxmoor Mall, and used to be solely online. Great outfits, and I love the dress and hat they styled me in for this collaboration shoot earlier this Spring.
I first saw Kenzie’s derby hats featured in a Louisville Tourism magazine and then on many TV broadcasters around town. The distinct styles, colors, and designs of her fascinators and hats are unlike any I have seen. My fascinator from last year was Kenzie’s, and it was a show stopper. Many local designers recreate the same hat designs in different colors, but I find Kenzie’s designs to be fresh, reasonably priced, and an investment worth every penny spent.
Why buy new when styles are timeless? If you are a lover of history and one-of-a-kind items you must visit. The Nitty Gritty is a vintage and costume rental store that carries beautiful old hats, purses, and dresses from days gone by. I have rented a few great outfits here, and almost snatched a few vintage hats the last time I was in.
